After a positive experience in the World Series Formula V8 3.5, the Italian team turns the page and lands in the series preparatory to the Verizon IndyCar Series
Milan (Italy) - RP Motorsport Racing is ready for "the American dream." After two excellent years played in the prestigious World Series Formula V8 3.5 (the championship that closed its doors at the end of the 2017 season) the Italian team is now about to face a new and exciting challenge on the American continent. The 2018 season will see RP Motorsport Racing in the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, a series preparatory to the famous Verizon IndyCar Series championship with a single-seater Tatuus PM-18 powered by a 275-hp Mazda 2.0-liter engine.
A strongly desired choice by RP Motorsport Racing, it underlines once again the team's desire to expand its business in rapidly growing competitive contexts while entering at the same time new markets with an international dimension.
Fabio Pampado (RP Motorsport Racing team principal): "After a successful experience in the World Series Formula V8 3.5, we immediately started looking around to fix our plans for 2018. We found a very interesting context in the Pro Mazda Championship. Thanks to its partnership with INDYCAR and to the new Tatuus chassis in 2018, it will receive a new boost. We believe it is the best choice for us to continue to guarantee our team the presence in a championship with international visibility, and the opportunity to compete on tracks full of charm represents a challenge with a unique flavor."
There will be nine events that will characterize the 2018 season of the Pro Mazda Championship with 16 races overall, two of which are on oval circuits, five on road tracks and two on city tracks. After the first pre-season tests scheduled at Homestead-Miami Speedway at the end of February and at Barber Motorsport Park in early March, the season will start on March 9-11 on the St. Petersburg city circuit, coinciding with the inaugural race of the IndyCar Series.
After the round at Barber Motorsport Park (April 20-22), the series will turn to the most prestigious appointment of the season, scheduled on the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit from May 10-12, before the scheduled challenge on the Lucas Oil Raceway mini-oval May 25. Another weekend on a track full of history at Road America (June 22-24) follows before the Canadian trip to Toronto (July 13-15) and Mid-Ohio (July 27-29). The two final stages of the season will take place on August 24-25 at Gateway Motorsport Park and, just a week later, on the Portland circuit.
A season with stars and stripes looks promising for RP Motorsport Racing, and it is already at work to prepare in the best way for the challenge.
