INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires series rookie Jake Parsons claimed his first podium at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, finishing third in the opening race. “What a great feeling, it’s an awesome place to get my first podium”, said the elated young Australian.

Having overcome some technical issues with steering and braking in qualifying, the 21-year-old started the race in fourth position. Avoiding the squabbling for positions into turn one, Parsons benefited from his patience, passing the wide running Aaron Telitz to third place by the end of the first lap.

Consistent, clever driving saw Parsons, in the #00 Juncos car, maintain and control the gap back to the chasing pack, coming home for an impressive maiden podium in the Mazda Road to Indy ladder system series.

“I’m really happy with that, consistency really paid off in that race. It was pretty damned cool standing on the podium looking at the IMS stands and circuit. The champagne definitely tasted sweet up there!”

The 2014 AsiaCup champion feels there’s still more to come from the car though. “There are things we can we can do better and improve on, so hopefully we can take another step forward in race two.”

Race 6 of the Pro Mazda series take place today, Saturday 14 May on the Indianapolis road course.
