Speedway, Ind. – Abel Motorsports and driver Jacob Abel had a very successful trip to Road America this past weekend, scoring a podium finish in Race 1 and a top-five finish in Race 2.

Heading into the weekend Abel had confidence in the car and was ready to execute. After the first practice session of the weekend, it was very clear how tight the field was and how fierce the competition was going to be.

Qualifying saw Abel really pick up the pace as he qualified third for Race 1 and fourth for Race 2, his best qualifying rounds of the 2021 Indy Pro 2000 season to date.

When the green flag flew for Race 1, Abel lost some ground and began to settle into his rhythm. As the laps wound down, Abel began to get on a charge as he moved his way back to thid place and began to challenge the top-two running drivers. Unfortunately, the driver of the No. 51 ran out of laps and brought the car home on the podium in third place with the fastest lap of the race.

After the strong finish in Race 1, hopes were even higher that Race 2 would result in another podium finish. After getting pushed into the grass on the opening few corners, Abel slotted into seventh place and began to slowly start mounting a charge to the front. Once again running out of laps, Abel had to settle for a fifth-place finish once again with the fastest lap of the race.

“Overall, it was a stellar weekend for me and the 51 boys," said Abel. "To get a podium and have the fastest race laps is a huge boost to our confidence. I can’t wait to get to Mid-Ohio where I have been on the podium before and keep this momentum rolling."

Jacob Abel and Abel motorsports have a week off to prepare for the upcoming rounds at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on July 1-4. Keep up with everything involving Abel Motorsports by following the team on social media.
