Oconomowoc, Wisconsin - Today, Pabst Racing announced that 21-year-old Hunter McElrea will return for the 2021 Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires. He will be driving the #18 Pabst Racing entry sponsored by Autosnow, Giltrap Group, Doric NZ, Miles Advisory Partners, Highlands Motorsports Park and Bell Racing USA.
2021 will mark McElrea’s third season with Pabst Racing. He competed with the team in the 2019 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship and enters his second season in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship with a solid season under his belt.
Although the 2021 season is a fresh start, the team’s last Indy Pro 2000 race was a win at the season finale at St. Petersburg last October which undoubtedly offers a positive momentum for McElrea and his crew. In addition to capping the season off with a win, McElrea earned five podiums.
“I’m really excited to be back with the Pabst Racing Team for the 2021 Indy Pro 2000 Championship,” said McElrea. “Last year was a year full of learning and development, and I can’t wait to put it to use this year. We showed that we are a winning combination, and I’m aiming to continue this into 2021!”
2021 will be the second year Pabst Racing has drivers in both Indy Pro 2000 and USF2000. Team owner Augie Pabst is optimistic and eager to get the season started.
“Having concluded our first Indy Pro 2000 season with a one-two finish at St. Pete 2020, we’re thrilled to maintain the team continuity with Hunter for 2021,” said Pabst. "His commitment, both in and out of the car is second to none, coupled with everything we learned last year, I’m looking forward to continue right where we left off in 2020.”
The team will be participating in off-season testing in preparation of their first event at Barber Motorsports Park April 15th through 18th.
