MADISON, Ill. – The final Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires oval event for Abel Motorsports and driver Jacob Abel at the World Wide Technology Raceway was completed this past weekend, with Abel putting on a strong performance driving from 10th to 6th.

After a disappointing qualifying session, the Butler University junior, along with race engineer Kent Boyer, knew it would be an uphill battle in the race to charge to the front. Coming up with a car setup they knew would do well in heavy traffic the team proceeded with the race.

Abel got a great jump on the field at the start and began to pass cars slowly as he made his way to the front in the 55-lap Cooper Tires Indy Pro 2000 Oval Challenge of St. Louis. After a crash on lap 11 bunched the field back up, Jacob Abel settled back into his rhythm working on getting around the cars ahead of him. After battling for several laps, Abel completed the pass for 6th on the final corner of the last lap to secure the position for the No. 51 Crosley Brands (crosleybrands.com) car.

“It was a tough start to the weekend, and definitely not the qualifying position we had wanted but we never gave up and kept working hard at it. We had a great setup for traffic which gave me the ability to pass cars and make way forward. It was a lot of fun on track constantly battling everyone around me, and to make a last lap pass for 6th. I have to thank all of the guys on my team and my friends at Crosley Brands for making this all possible, now it’s time to turn our attention to New Jersey Motorsports Park,” said Abel.

Abel Motorsports heads into the triple header race weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park sitting 7th in the points standings, just four points out of 6th place.
