Brownsburg, IN – Juncos Racing’s strong performance this week at Barber Motorsports Park showed they are ready for a promising 2014 season in the Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires. Alfonso Celis topped the previous Pro Mazda record at Barber Motorsports Park and finished the test at the top of the time charts while teammates Spencer Pigot, Kyle Kaiser, and Jose Gutierrez finished in the Top-10.

Newcomer to the Pro Mazda Championship, Alfonso Celis, finished the test with a 1:20.490, surpassing the previous Pro Mazda record of 1:21.166 set by Tristan Vautier in 2011.

“I’m very happy with the result and the way the team operates after the test at Barber Motorsports Park,” said Celis. “I find them very professional which definitely motivates me to do my best and remain focused on getting the most out of the car and myself. I’m also very impressed about the series and the entire Road to Indy program. It’s undoubtedly a dream to be able to test with such a professional team and to end up P1 in such a competitive series. I hope that after my performance at Barber, I will be able to work with Juncos Racing again in the future.”

Spencer Pigot, returning to the Pro Mazda series and piloting the Doug Mockett & Company/Parathyroid.com/California Scents/OMP car, climbed the charts at Barber Motorsports Parking finishing 3rd fastest overall in the last test after leading numerous times during the two-day test.

“I had a great experience with Juncos Racing at the Barber test,” said Pigot. “We worked really well together and made a lot of progress throughout the test. It was good to be at the front both days and fastest in one session. Hopefully I’ll be back in one of their cars soon.”

Kyle Kaiser, driving the InterVision/NetApp/Juniper Networks/Riverbed car for Juncos Racing, finished the test at Barber Motorsports Park 4th fastest in the final test session.

Jose Gutierrez, driving the Prisma Desarrollos sponsored car, finished the two-day test with Juncos Racing holding 6th in the time charts for the final test session on Tuesday.

“We had a very successful and very interesting test this week,” said Gutierrez. “I managed to get up to speed right away after not driving for a while, and felt very comfortable. Barber is a very fun track and it was an awesome experience for me after doing so many laps in the simulator. I’m happy with where we ended up and it was a great result for Juncos Racing. I am looking forward to possible opportunities in the future with the team.”

Ricardo Juncos, Team Owner, was very pleased with all four drivers’ performances at Barber Motorsports Park and looks forward to continuing the momentum in the 2014 season.

“I’m extremely happy with how the test went for the entire Juncos Racing team,” said Juncos. It is the first time during two official testing days where we had all four drivers up to P2 during different points in the test. We ended the test days with all four cars in the Top-6 places and it’s something that makes the entire team very proud and happy. I want to thank all four drivers for the opportunity and the crew members for an outstanding job during the test. Next season is looking very good, with a lot more drivers and strong competition, which is great. I’m really looking forward to the 2014 season.”

The Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires will kick off the 2014 season on March 29, 2014 at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. For more information visit juncosracing.com and promazdachampionship.com.
