Yeany will make series debut at Barber Motorsports Park
After claiming multiple wins and a championship in 2020, Hunter Yeany is set for a new challenge in 2021. Joining the championship-winning Velocity Racing Development (VRD) program, who will enter a pair of cars in the Road to Indy Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship, Yeany will enter the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires as he doubles up on his race programs for 2021.
“My goal is to be the best so to do that, I need to race against the best and beat the best no matter where they are,” explained Yeany. “I have been working harder than ever since the last checkered flag in 2020. Virginia High Performance in Virginia Beach has been getting me mentally and physically ready to compete in two different series. I know there is a lot to learn, but I am up for the challenge and I definitely have the right group of people around me.”
Already set for an FR Americas campaign, Yeany is the reigning F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda champion and will be the first driver to make a run at both the FR Americas and Indy Pro 2000 Championship in the same season. Focused on advancing up the motorsports ladder and competing in the highest level of open-wheel motorsports possible, Yeany and his management program feel that this is the best opportunity for the fifteen-year-old.
Yeany added, “I know running both series won’t be easy. There will be new tracks to learn including street courses as well as a pair of ovals. The team is ready, and I’ve worked hard to make sure I’m ready. I’m excited for 2021. We set our goals at the end of last year and competing in two different paddocks and winning races across both throughout North America’s best junior open-wheel series is only one of them. The rest will fall into place after that.”
On the strength of seven victories and thirteen podiums in only fourteen rounds of competition, Yeany earned a name for himself en route to his first open-wheel championship. Now with a new season upon us, Yeany will compete with the familiar and potent VRD effort as together they make their foray into the ultra-competitive Road to Indy.
With test days planned leading up to the first event of 2021, Yeany and Velocity Racing Development will make their Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires series debut at the Barber Motorsports Park over the April 15 – 18th weekend.
