Brazilian driver Enzo Fittipaldi has signed a contract with RP Motorsport with support from Andretti Autosport to race a full season of the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires in 2021.
“I am very happy to announce my move to the United States in a championship as competitive as Indy Pro 2000, which is one of the main ones on the already established Road to Indy," said Fittipaldi, who has the support of Claro, Baterias Moura, XP Investimentos and PLGG.
"I want to thank Michael Andretti and Fabio Pampado for this amazing opportunity. I will continue to work hard everyday to fulfill this opportunity and to become one of the top drivers in the series. I am very confident that my racing experience the last few years in Europe will help me to achieve good results in Indy Pro 2000 too, and making this a step forward towards achieving my dream of racing in F1 and INDYCAR."
The union of two of the most traditional motorsport families in 2021 will be one of the highlights of the championship, according to Michael Andretti.
“We are very happy to have Enzo Fittipaldi in our racing program," said Andretti. "Our families have a long history together in racing and Christian Fittipaldi was my teammate in Indy cars for many years. Enzo was racing in Europe for the last four years with the top teams as part of the Ferrari Driver Academy where he showed lots of talent and strong results. We are certain that he will do a great job in the Road to Indy."
Due to his move to the United States, Fittipaldi will not be part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, which is exclusive for drivers racing in the ladder for F1 in Europe.
“I have no words to say how grateful I am for all the support that the Ferrari Driver Academy has provided me the last four years," said Fittipaldi. "I will take all this learning with me and I want to thank each team member for helping me to develop as a pilot and person."
Fabio Pampado, CEO at RP Motorsport, said he is very pleased to have Enzo Fittipaldi in his team.
"I am very excited to welcome the newest addition to the RP family, Enzo Fittipaldi. We wanted to make a strong come back and, after following his career in Europe, I have no doubt he is going to be a strong contender from the start."
The 2021 season of Indy Pro 2000 is scheduled to start in April at Barber Motorsports Park. Fittipaldi’s first test is set to take place at Homestead-Miami Speedway on February 22-23.
