Indianapolis, Ind. – Will Owen will make his first career Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires oval start this weekend at the Cooper Tires Freedom 90, which will take place at Lucas Oil Raceway.  The event will mark the second time that the Colorado native competes at the short oval, after getting his first laps around it last year in a Cooper Tires US F2000 Championship Powered by Mazda car.

Owen is coming off his best weekend of the year at the Indianapolis Grand Prix where he scored a second place finish and was constantly fighting for the lead.  For this weekend, Owen and the Juncos team have prepared by testing yesterday at the .686-mile oval where he was consistently among the top runners in his #23 AMR Juncos machine.

The Cooper Tires Freedom 90 will be a one-day event this Saturday with practice, qualifying and the race all taking place the night before the Indy 500.

“It’s going to be a great weekend, I’m keeping my expectations open for sure.  It’s the first oval so I think it’s going to give a chance for the Americans to make a strong appearance and have some good results so I’m definitely excited!  I had a chance to race here in the US F2000 car last year so I have some sort of idea of what it will be like, but definitely with the Pro Mazda car it should be faster and more exciting.”
