Elkhart Lake, Wis. – Nearly a month since the last round of the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, Will Owen and his team Juncos Racing have arrived at Road America. The championship has been absent from the well-known American circuit since 2010 making the playing field even for most of the drivers aiming for the podium this weekend.
Owen will push his #23 Juncos Racing machine around the 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit during the 30 minute qualifying session today at 1:25pm CST. Race one of the weekend is scheduled to go green at 8:55am CST on Saturday with the second race just hours later at 2:05pm CST.
The 21-year old is currently 4th in the Pro Mazda Championship points standings and only 8 points away from his teammate, Garett Grist, in 3rd. Along with scoring more points towards the championship, Owen is in pursuit of his first race win of the season this weekend.
Will Owen, Driver of the #23 AMR Juncos Racing
“A lot of weekends I say that I am very excited to race, but this weekend is on another level because this is my favorite track. Road America is legendary, some people call it a driver’s track, which means every corner is fun and there’s no part that you dread coming up to – it’s all great. You’re in the straight line for a long time here, so the engine is very important and we are still working on that. Right now things are going well and I feel that I’m driving the best I have ever done based off of my technique with the breaking and the throttle and hitting the marks on a lot of stuff that Juncos and I have been working on. Hopefully we can put everything together because I think we have a good shot of finishing on the podium this weekend.”
