Indianapolis, Ind. – Will Owen scored his second podium in a row in the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires after finishing a close second at the Cooper Tires Freedom 90 this weekend. The young rookie has put together a string of strong results halfway through the season and has now climbed to fifth in the championship with 142 points.
Owen qualified fourth in the Juncos Racing AMR car and after the green flag fell he immediately managed to climb up to second. Him and race winner Weiron Tan were the class of the field and during the race managed to pull a large gap on the rest of their competitors. It was an exciting end to the race as Owen began closing the gap to the leader in the last few laps, but the Colorado native didn’t have enough time to catch Tan and he ended up taking the checkered flag only .426s behind him. The race was Owen’s first-ever oval event in a Pro Mazda car.
Owen and the Juncos team will now head north to the streets of Toronto where they will compete in the next two rounds of the championship on June 12-14.

“It’s great to be back on the podium! I’m very excited but also a little bit disappointed that I wasn’t able to get first, it was so close and I almost got it in the end there. A great run today for my car, I have to thank Juncos Racing because the car was fantastic throughout the whole race, even when the tires were cold I was able to have a much better pace than the guys around me. I couldn’t be here without my sponsors so big thanks to AMR, Mazda, Cooper Tires and Speed Group for all their support!”
