Newton, Ia. - Will Owen took on the second oval of the season this weekend at Iowa Speedway for the seventh event of the Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires. In what turned out to be a grueling and physically demanding race, Owen had to settle with a tenth place finish after starting third. The result is his tenth top-ten of the season and it places him eight in the championship standings with 172 points.
The 20-year-old driver had a strong start from third but as soon as the field got up to speed he started struggling with the balance of his #23 AMR Juncos Racing machine and could not keep up with the leaders. After a restart he had an exciting battle with his Juncos Racing teammates but towards the end of the race the bumpiness of the track and the heavy steering of the Pro Mazda machine started to take a toll on many of the young drivers. Owen managed to stay focused and finished the 100-lap race in the eight position.
Next in the calendar will be the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course where Owen was very quick recently during a series test, lining up third overall right behind his Juncos teammates.
