Madison, Ill. – After a strong showing at last week’s official Road to Indy test at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, Turn 3 Motorsport is set to take on the 1.25-mile oval at this weekend’s Indy Pro 2000 Championship presented by Cooper Tires race.
While the speedway, located just outside of St. Louis, is the final oval event of the season for the series, it will be the first experience that T3M driver Antoine Comeau has with oval style racing.
The rookie team and driver came out strong during the official series test, clocking in competitive times throughout the day and even climbing to second fastest at one point during the final practice session. The gratifying outcome gave both the team and Comeau the confidence they hoped for going into this weekend’s events.
“It was very satisfying to run competitive lap times during my first oval test at Gateway last week,” commented Comeau. “With a successful test behind us, I’m really looking forward to competing in my first oval race this weekend. Everyone has been working very hard on the team, and we expect to continue improving our results going forward.”
“Gateway was a very successful test for the team,” said Team Owner Peter Dempsey. “It was our first time running on an oval with a rookie driver, so we set very little expectations. Fortunately, the test went better than we expected. Antoine (Comeau) did a great job with the car and ended up only a few tenths off the fastest guys.”
“Heading into the race this weekend is still going to be a tough challenge for Antoine as he has no oval racing experience,” continued Dempsey. “Qualifying will also be challenging because we will be the first car out on track. That being said, our goals for the weekend are to try to qualify the best we can, make sure we compete all the laps of the race, and learn oval race craft heading into 2020.”
This weekend’s events begin on Friday, August 23 with a practice session at 2:15pm CST followed by qualifying at 6:30pm CST. The 55-lap race commences on Saturday, August 24 at 1:45pm CST.
