AUSTIN, TEXAS – Juncos Racing gave a strong performance in the opening rounds of the 2013 Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires with driver Diego Ferreira capturing his second podium and teammate Scott Anderson finishing inside the Top-5 in Round 2 at the Circuit of the Americas. Juncos Racing gains control of the Pro Mazda Championship team points heading into St. Petersburg, Florida later this month.
Ferreira, 19, driver of the #57 Juncos Racing/Team Viso Venezuela machine, claimed his second podium of the weekend finishing second and takes control of the Pro Mazda Championship driver points. The young Venezuelan took home the first win of the season in Round 1 at the Circuit of the Americas.
“We had a great weekend overall at Circuit of the Americas,” said Ferreira. “I’m really happy with how we ran both days, just wish we could have come up with another win. We did our best to get to the front today, but finishing second was great for the championship points, as we lead the driver championship points. I want to thank the team for all of their hard work, Team Viso Venezuela, and my family.”
American rookie Scott Anderson, driving the #44 Juncos Racing/Laser Nail Centers/Neuropathy Testing Center car, showed an impressive run in his second race in the Pro Mazda Championship battling his way to a fourth place finish. Anderson finished sixth in Round 1 at the Circuit of the Americas and takes third in the Pro Mazda Championship driver points.
“Today’s race went very well,” said Anderson. “We stayed out of trouble and had the second fastest lap of the race. While I missed out on the podium, we bright side is we made a huge leap in our speed and performance. We are figuring out the set-up that suits me and I’m much more comfortable with the car. It’s a great start to my rookie season!”
Starting the season leading the driver and team championship points, Ricardo Juncos, Team Owner, was very pleased with both drivers’ top performances. Juncos looks forward to a great year with the newly formed Pro Mazda Championship series after a successful opening weekend.
“Today was a fantastic race for us,” said Juncos. “A second and forth is very good for the team. Unfortunately the race was so short due to yellows, which made it hard for us to come back to fight for the lead. Diego has shown how much he has improved within our team in only a year, leading the championship. Scott has shown a lot of potential in a short time as a rookie, as we have been able to find speed and what he’s been able to do with the car. We have started off the season on a high note, and we will continue to keep both of these drivers at the front. I want to thank my crew for all of the hard work they put into these cars, the drivers for great results, our sponsors for all of their support, our fans and my family.”
