Sowery will hit Road America aiming for the top step of the podium
CHICAGO, Ill. - What could be a preview for the 2019 racing season, BN Racing has signed British driver Toby Sowery for the upcoming events at Road America. Set to take part in Tuesday's Mazda Road to Indy Series Test, the multi-time champion will also contest rounds eight and nine at the 4.014, 14-turn road course at the famed Elkhart Lake facility.
"I am really excited to have Toby join our program," explained BN Racing's Bryn Nuttall. "He is a talented driver and an obvious threat for race wins and podium results in which ever series he enters. I think with two test days this week, he will be right on pace to challenge at the front of the field in our next event."
"Returning to competition in North America is something that I have been working towards for quite sometime," explained Sowery, who claimed a top-five finish last year when he made his North American debut in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda double-header at Barber Motorsports Park. "I can't thank Bryn and BN Racing enough for the opportunity and look to make them proud at Road America."
Sowery, a one-off entry at the moment, enters the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires as the 2014 MSV F3 Cup Champion and BRDC Rising Star Driver, the 2014/2015 MRF Challenge Champion as well as a five-time race winner the the British Formula 3 Championship. Currently supported by Rich Energy, a premium and innovative British energy drink, Sowery is a Lamborghini GT3 Academy Driver who will look to parlay his open-wheel experience into results on North American soil.
Nuttall continued, "Sowery brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and should be beneficial in all areas of our program. With some experience in the USF2000 car, as well as the Tatuus car in Europe, I am confident that his abilities will take him to the top as he and David Malukas will be a threat to the rest of the field at Road America."
