MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Team Pelfrey drivers Spencer Pigot and Anders Krohn overcame some difficulties to finish third and fourth in this evening’s 90-lap sixth round of the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires at the famed Milwaukee Mile. Both drivers were involved in a spirited tussle for second place around North America’s oldest purpose-built race track.
An impressive charge around the outside of Turns One and Two on the opening lap saw Pigot vault from sixth on the grid to third as the pack sped along the back straightaway on the opening lap, with Krohn tucking in close behind.
The pair maintained some pressure on the second-place car of Juan Piedrahita, and the battle intensified shortly after the half-way point in the race when the pack came up to lap Brabham’s teammate, Shelby Blackstock. Pigot renewed his challenge on Piedrahita following a late-race restart but was unable to find a way past.
Pigot’s third podium finish of the season moved him to within seven points of Blackstock for third in the championship standings. Team Pelfrey’s tally of 27 points moved the Clearwater, Fla.-based team within 15 markers of second place in the Team Championship.
Team Pelfrey will return to action for a pair of races around the Exhibition Place street circuit as part of the Honda Indy Toronto on July 13/14.

Spencer Pigot (#81 Team Pelfrey/Doug Mockett & Company/Gap Guard/Parathyroid.com/California Scents/OMP) – qualified sixth, finished third: “It’s not the best finish we were hoping for, but starting sixth and finishing third is still a good result. It is good to be on the podium and pick up some good points. We’ve had some pretty good finishes on the ovals, and now I am looking forward to getting back to the street and road courses.”
Anders Krohn (#82 Pelfrey Performance/www.GetGapGuard.com) – qualified third, finished fourth: “It was a pretty stagnant race from my perspective. I think once we slotted in there, we didn’t really do much but we had a fairly solid car throughout the race. Actually, I think we were just getting stronger and stronger. I really enjoyed my time with the team and coming out of ‘retirement’ for a couple of races! It was good fun. I wish both of us could have got on the podium but at the end it’s important for Spencer and the team to score some good points, so overall it was a good day.”
