Brownsburg, IN — With an extensive and decorated career thus far, 20-year-old Spencer Pigot continues scaling the INDYCAR ladder in the 2014 Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires.

As young drivers often do, Pigot started racing karts at the onset of his career. The impact he made in the karting world, however, would soon set him apart from his competitors, gaining seven championship titles — four state, one regional and two national. His strong presence at the karting level would foreshadow his upcoming career in open-wheel racing.

After his karting career came to a close, Pigot was already looking ahead to what was next — open-wheel racing. In 2009, his first year in car racing, he achieved five wins in the Skip Barber Eastern Region out of nine starts, was named an official MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Driver and wrapped up the year as the “Skip Barber Karting Shootout” Scholarship award winner.

Following his 2009 season, Pigot continued to strive for more titles in open-wheel racing. He was champion of the 2010 Skip Barber National Series with three wins, five poles and twelve podium finishes. He claimed the title of Vice-Champion in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda in 2011 and in 2012. Despite missing the championship title by a few points, he won eight races which doubled those of the eventual winner. He also won the Cooper Tires USF2000 Winterfest Championship in 2012. His rookie season in the Pro Mazda Championship began in 2013, and he picked up one win, one pole and five podium finishes along the way. Pigot was chosen for the Rising Star Racing program the same year, which is designed to help fund a very select group of young open-wheel drivers.

The last time team owner Ricardo Juncos worked with Pigot was almost a decade ago. As one of Pigot’s former coaches during his karting days, Juncos now graciously accepts another opportunity to mentor the young driver.

“Having Spencer back with us after seven years is a nice story," said Juncos. “We have known each other since he was 10-years-old when he raced go-karts, and I had the chance to help him in the beginning of his racing career.”

Looking forward to 2014, he added: “Now I have the chance to work with him again. He is definitely one of the best, more experienced drivers in Pro Mazda, and he’s the driver every team wants. For us, it’s an honor to have him for the 2014 season. I can’t wait to start this year.”

“I’m really looking forward to the beginning of the 2014 season," said Pigot. "It’s been a while since the last race I did, so I’m looking forward to being back on the  grid. It’s going to be a tough season — there are a lot of fast drivers. Juncos Racing is a great team and hopefully we can fight for wins consistently throughout the year.”

About Juncos Racing: Stationed in Buenos Aires, Argentina and headed by Ricardo Juncos, Juncos Racing became a full-service Formula Racing team in 1997. By 2003, the team relocated to Miami, Fla., as a full-service karting team. During its first few years in the U.S., the team picked up 19 local, regional and national karting titles. Moving right along, Juncos Racing not only moved operations north to Indiana, but it developed into a formula open-wheel racing team in 2008. Now, the team was in full swing, dedicating most of its time preparing drivers and crew members for the new type of racing.

Following this transitional year, Juncos Racing participated in its first formula open-wheel series—the 2009 Pro Mazda Championship.

Despite challenges early in the season, the team gained multiple wins, second in the driver’s championship, and third in the team championship. By 2012, the team’s operations expanded to include cars in the Indy Lights series. Juncos Racing currently operates out of Brownsburg, Ind.
