Madison, Ill. – Rasmus Lindh continues to lead the 2019 Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires after claiming second in the Cooper Tires Oval Challenge of St. Louis at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway while teammate Sting Ray Robb finished fifth.
Lindh made history for Juncos Racing in qualifying by claiming the pole, marking the 50th pole earned by the team since joining the Indy Pro 2000 Championship back in 2009.
The seventh weekend of the 2019 Indy Pro 2000 and final oval event kicked off with one practice session followed by qualifying on Friday on the 1.25-mile oval located just outside St. Louis, Missouri. Rasmus Lindh (Gothenburg, Sweden) driving the No. 10 Chicago Pneumatic/Juncos Racing car set a new track qualifying record while picking up his fourth pole position of the season. By claiming the pole, Lindh delivered Juncos Racing their 50th pole position in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship. Teammate Sting Ray Robb (Payette, Idaho) driving the No. 2 Go Out Local/Big Idaho Potato/Juncos Racing car qualified third.
The two-day event concluded Saturday afternoon with Round 12 on the final of two oval tracks during the 2019 season. The highly competitive Indy Pro 2000 field put on one of the best shows of the season with multiple battles going on throughout the 55-lap race. Lindh, held onto the lead for the first two laps, however fell back and would run among the Top-3 for most of the race. The first and only caution came on lap 41 after a car made contact with the wall. Once the field took the green flag for the final time, Sting Ray Robb had a strong restart, moving back into the Top-5. Robb went on to finish fifth. On the final lap Lindh made a pass for second in the final turn to take the checkered in second, claiming his 10th podium of the season.
Lindh now leads the close Indy Pro 2000 Championship by six points.
“This weekend we started off really strong setting a new track qualifying record which lead to the team’s 50th pole in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship,” said Lindh. “I am very happy we were able to accomplish this, especially on an oval since I have not had as much experience as the other drivers on ovals. The race did not go as planned at the start after losing the lead, but we never gave up and fought our way back to add valuable points to this very competitive championship. We will continue to work hard and give all we have for the final four races. Robb maintains fifth in the Indy Pro 2000 championship.
“This weekend was not what we were looking for,” said Robb. “We had a rough run in the practice session and didn’t get much time on track. We recovered a lot for qualifying, walking away with P3. The guys worked really hard on giving me a fast car for the race, but we just didn’t have enough to battle up front during the race. I did my best to adapt to the track during the race as it changed a lot since the pervious day in practice and qualifying. I am looking forward to moving on and getting ready for Portland this coming week. I am excited for Portland as it is like my home race, and I will have a lot of family and friends out there to cheer us on.
