Lexington, Ohio – Danial Frost made his return to the podium with a second place finish in Race 1 at this weekend’s Surgere Indy Pro 2000 Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio. The 18-year-old also scored his first Cooper Tires Pole Award of the season in Friday’s Qualifying 1 with a fastest lap time of 1:16.2136.

In Race 1, the win was in hot pursuit, causing Frost to lose his starting position on lap one to the #9 car of Parker Thompson. With the fight for the lead carrying on, Frost’s #68 DENJET car swapped positions with the #8 car of Manuel Sulaiman just before the leader suffered an engine failure that took him out of the race. From there, Frost put the pressure on Sulaiman throughout the remaining laps, ultimately crossing the finish line just behind him in P2.

Antoine Comeau’s qualifying effort didn’t land him the starting spot he wanted, so the Canadian’s goal in Race 1 was to challenge his competitors for positions during the 25-lap event. Comeau’s motivation for results saw him engaging in some on-track battles and improving his #3 ACR/Eastern car from P11 up to P9 for the first race of the weekend.

Race 2 got off to a rocky start with rainy weather taunting the 14-car field in the morning; the slippery opening laps caused Frost to fall back to P6 while Comeau climbed up to P8. However, the treacherous conditions ended up red-flagging the event after four laps to restart later in the day. With sunnier skies in the afternoon, the race recommenced with Frost jumping up to fifth and Comeau to seventh in the initial laps.

Comeau continued to demonstrate skill while contesting other cars for a higher finish and eventually ended up P10 for the second race. After Frost regained P5, he chased down the #42 car of Artem Petrov for P4. While the Singaporean got close, he couldn’t quite catch Petrov before the clock ran out and finished Race 2 in P5.

“I’m really happy to be back on the podium this weekend,” said Frost. “We made good progress on the championship, and the team did a great job once again giving me an amazing car. There were a lot of positives to take out of this weekend. We have to keep pushing for the remaining rounds, and we’ll have to see what we can do at New Jersey Motorsports Park. It’s a new track for all of us, and I think that we can make big strides there. Thank you to everyone that made the results this weekend happen!”

"It was a challenging weekend for me, but I learned a lot from racing closely with other drivers,” said Comeau. “Overall, it was a solid weekend for me with a lot of good racing. Hopefully next time we can take the fight closer to the front.”

Frost leaves the weekend fourth in the championship with Comeau in 11th. With five races remaining in the 2020 Indy Pro 2000 Championship presented by Cooper Tires, the championship hunt remains alive with only 15 points separating second, third, and fourth.

“It was great to be back at Mid-Ohio with IndyCar,” said Team Owner Peter Dempsey. “You could certainly feel the buzz around the paddock with the support series and the fans at the race.”

“It was a very busy Friday for our team with three on track sessions that day,” continued Dempsey. “The #3 car had an engine issue, so we decided to do an engine change ahead of the second qualifying session. My team of guys did a great job getting the engine changed in an hour and twenty minutes. This allowed Antoine to make Qualifying 2, and the engine change was definitely an improvement on what we had heading into Races 1 and 2. I feel both of our drivers did a solid job over the weekend and got some good points for the championship. Now, we will shift our focus to New Jersey Motorsports Park where we will keep pushing for race wins.”

Up next for Turn 3 Motorsport is a triple header weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park October 9-11.
