Milwaukee – The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Foundation today announced racecar driver TJ Fischer as the grand marshal for its annual 5K Run/Walk; Light Up the Night hosted in downtown Atlanta on March 5, 2017.

Fischer was diagnosed with asthma at an early age and has used his experiences as an athlete and racecar driver to shine a spotlight on his initiative, Project O2. The 23 year-old created Project O2 for the sole purpose of informing, inspiring, and innovating a new path to asthma awareness.

“We are thrilled to have TJ involved as the grand marshal of the AAAAI Foundation 5K Run/Walk,” commented Joseph D. Diaz, MD, AAAAI Foundation Special Events Chair. “His successful management of his own asthma is a great example of how young people can meet their own athletic and professional goals with proper disease management. We applaud his work with raising awareness about asthma and look forward to welcoming him to Atlanta.”

The AAAAI Foundation’s Annual Meeting allows attendees the opportunity to “run for research” and engage in a conservation that raises awareness for the A/I specialty. Registration is $40 which includes a t-shirt, race medal, and other swag gear. Individuals may register for the event at (http://annualmeeting.aaaai.org).

“I’m extremely excited and honored to be the grand marshal for the 2017 AAAAI 5K event on March 5th,” said the racecar driver that will take part in the first Pro Mazda Championship event of 2017 the following week in the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla. “What an opportunity to be involved with such a great foundation. A big thank you to Rachel Maidl, Lee Wiensch and of course everyone else at AAAAI that were involved in making this happen. Hopefully I won’t look too crazy running with a racing suit in the 5K."
