In the “Night Before the 500”, Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing picked up another podium finish in the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires. In a caution free, 90-lap race, Scott Hargrove finished second and Neil Alberico finished sixth.
The Allied Building Products Pro Mazda Oval Challenge at the 0.686-mile Lucas Oil Raceway oval as part of the 69th Annual Visit Hendricks County Night Before the 500 was fast-paced. After starting sixth and seventh, respectively, Hargrove (No. 3) and Alberico (No. 2) ran clean races and kept up with the leaders.
The drivers waited until the end of the race to make their moves. On laps 83 and 84, Hargrove moved into second place and earned himself the RePlay XD Move of the Race Award. Alberico also moved up and finished sixth.
“It was a good points race for us,” said Dominic and Nicholas Cape. “Both drivers were smart to stay out of trouble and make their moves at the end of the race. We have to thank the crew for all their hard work. It’s been a busy May!”
Hargrove is now second in the driver point standings, only three points behind the leader (180-177). Alberico is tied for third with 127 points.
The Pro Mazda Championship moves on to the streets of Houston, Texas, for Rounds Eight and Nine in conjunction with the Verizon IndyCar Series on June 28/29.
