St. Petersburg, Fla. - Don’t mess with Texas. Cape Motorsport with Wayne Taylor Racing left MD Anderson Cancer Center Speedway with a victory and a podium during last weekend’s Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires Allied Building Products Pro Mazda Grand Prix of Houston Presented by Marlin CNG Services. Scott Hargrove picked up his third victory of the season, while Neil Alberico scored another podium finish.

In Race 1, Hargrove, driving the No. 3, started third and Alberico in the No. 2 started seventh. The two battled for position on the track in the early stages of the race, and Hargrove unfortunately made contact with his teammate, sending Alberico and the No. 2 machine into the wall. Hargrove was able to continue.

After serving a penalty for the earlier incident, Hargrove moved through the field during a series of yellow flags and a rainstorm. By the time the checkered flag flew, the young Canadian claimed his third victory of the season.

The next day it was Hargrove who saw his race end early. After starting third, Hargrove made side-to-side contact with a competitor, who was penalized for avoidable contact, and saw his race come to an end. Alberico was able to work his way through the field, and he held onto second place for the rest of the race. In addition, he posted the fastest race lap and a new track record.

After Houston, the teammates sit 2-3 in the driver point standings. The team is second, only five points back.

“What a crazy weekend,” said Dominic Cape. “It was unfortunate that Scott made contact with Neil in the first race, but he was able to salvage the day with superb patience and ultimate victory. In Race 2, the luck switched hands with Neil having one of his best races of the season. We’re proud of both drivers, and the team, for another great weekend.”

The Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires moves on to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Rounds 10 and 11, once again in conjunction with the Verizon IndyCar Series, on August 2/3.
