St. Petersburg, Fla. - Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing drivers had a solid performance in the Pro Mazda presented by Cooper Tires Series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this past weekend, August 2 and 3. Series rookies Neil Alberico and Scott Hargrove finished in the top-seven in both races.
After a frustrating qualifying, Hargrove and Alberico started seventh and 10th, respectfully, for Race 1. The race was slowed at the beginning and end with full-course cautions. Hargrove was able to pick up one position to finish sixth, while Alberico picked up three spots to finish seventh. Alberico also posted the fastest lap of the race.
In Race 2 of the weekend, Hargrove started eighth and Alberico started 11th. Hargrove picked up three spots in the opening lap, and by the end of the race, worked his way up to third. Alberico claimed the Quarter Master Hard Charger Award after making up six positions in the race to finish fifth.
“Mid-Ohio is a fun race track, and we always enjoy racing in front of such a great crowd of fans,” said team owners Dominic and Nicholas Cape. “Neil and Scott both had good races.”
After the races, Hargrove and Alberico sit two and three in the point standings. Hargrove is only 14 points in arrears of the points leader with three races left in the season. The team is second in the standings, only eights points back from the leader.
Cape Motorsports will next be on track August 16 for a single race at the Milwaukee Mile.
